What is Careers in Energy?

Careers in Energy (CIE), a division of Energy Safety Canada, is a not-for-profit organization whose mandate is to develop leading-edge research, tools and resources to:

  • Increase awareness of the energy industry and career opportunities.
  • Support attraction and retention of a skilled and productive workforce.

From VR experiences and their podcast, Not Your Grandpa’s Energy Industry, to online tools like Explore Careers and Day in the Life stories, CIE is your source for career planning in the energy industry.

CIE offers a myriad of tools and resources to help people pivot in their existing careers, find out which of their skills are transferrable to other areas of energy, and more.

Below are some resources that are popular with high school students wanting to get a taste of what the industry is all about and explore the types of jobs available:

  • VR experiences | CIE offers immersive virtual reality experiences that allow you to see the careers and leading-edge technologies that are transforming the industry. They even loan their VR headsets and programs to schools! Ask your teacher to book a free VR Field Trip for your classroom!
  • Experience the Energy: Take the Tour is an award-winning 360-degree tour of eight different oil and gas worksites. Transport to different locations at each site to get a firsthand look at the equipment and technology.
