We are actively recruiting individuals to fill appointments to our Board of Directors. We are seeking to balance professional experience, environmental or contextual knowledge, personal attributes and skills, to help fulfill the vision and mission of SafeGen.

SafeGen Volunteer Board of Directors Profile:

Serving on the SafeGen Board of Directors is an extraordinary opportunity for an individual who is passionate about making a positive impact in the health, safety and wellbeing of our next generation of workers!

SafeGen’s Board of Directors is comprised of leaders from the not-for-profit and for-profit sectors who are dedicated to our organization’s mission. They have demonstrated competencies, and skills and characteristics that have comprised a highly effective and diverse governing body for SafeGen.

Time Commitment: 2-3 Hours per Quarter

Volunteer Board Member Profile:

Relevant Professional Experience:

The candidate has comprehensive business acumen and board experience in not for profit, public or corporate organizations. With professional or volunteer experience in any of the following:

  • Governance
  • Business/Management
  • Regulatory
  • Human Resources
  • Accounting/Financial
  • Risk Management
  • Public Relations / Media

The candidate has specific or specialized knowledge within:

  • Government or public policy
  • Community / stakeholder relations
  • A specific industry/sector

Personal Effectiveness Skills:

The Candidate has the personal skills and attributes that will bring value to the board through:

  • Leadership / teamwork
  • Strategic planning / thinking
  • Critical thinking and problem solving
  • Ethics and values
  • Perspective
  • Engagement
  • Preparation and attendance

The candidate believes in integrity of action based on the shared values and beliefs of the board, can see many points of view on any given issue, and can project potential scenarios into the future for strategic planning purposes.

Additional Attributes:

The candidate is knowledgeable about Occupational Health, Safety and Environment practices, legal and regulatory requirements.

The candidate has knowledge of the Alberta education system, of effective learning technologies, distance education and alternative delivery systems.
