Let’s start a conversation.
Do you know someone with a mental illness, or are you living with one yourself? by the age of 40, about 50% of Canadians will have or have had a mental illness.* Even if you’re not one of these people, you can help end the stigma surrounding mental illness one small step at a time.
The Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) estimates that up to 20% of youth are affected by mental illness, and that 3.2 million youth are at risk for developing depression.
How can you help others, and yourself?
- Realize that people are not their illnesses, they are affected by them.
- Be kind to one another.
- Be a good listener and check in on family and friends.
- Talk about mental health. Sharing your story can help.
- Reach out if you need help – to anyone and everyone.
