Exploring Communications: Young Worker Safety Month

The third annual Young Worker Safety Month (#YWSM2022) will is back with more health and safety tips, and another prize package for one lucky Alberta youth. SafeGen, the Canadian Mental Health Association, Alberta Division (CMHA, Alberta Division) and HeadsUp Alberta (young worker safety awareness group), have again partnered to spread awareness about youth workplace health and safety. This year’s campaign will offer tips and tactics about the need for proper communications practices and methods, with peers, supervisors, and themselves.

The three organizations have come together to promote key messaging that focuses on an overarching theme of communication: how youth communicate with themselves, peers, and employers. This year’s campaign will focus on providing tips and tools for proper outward and inward communication, as well as information about being a good listener and conscientious employee. The campaign will feature an Instagram contest encouraging young Albertans to good communications practices, and will start August 2, 2022.

One lucky winner will receive:

  • A FitBit Versa 2
  • One Starbucks Gift Card gift card worth $100
  • Two tickets (worth $700 each) to the CMHA’s Working Stronger Conference (taking place in early 2023)

“We are finding now, more than ever, how youth communicate with themselves and others on a daily basis, affects their overall wellbeing and plays an important part in not only how they feel, but also how they do their jobs, and whether or not they stay safe. Our messaging aims to give them basic tools so they can communicate clearly and positively, as well as be great listeners.”
